Today I listen for the first time the entire speech given by the president of United States. I had in the past heard him speaking and could not get through it all. I usually turned him off. I did not want to do so this time as I know that come the State of the Union Addresses – I will turn him off just like I do all other presidents. I had to laugh as people think my personal views should change because he is black, which has nothing to do with my views at all.
As I listened to him, he did come across to me as a great communicator and from one communicator evaluating another communicator – I was impressed with what he said and I pray that he wrote his speech. LOL Yet there were a few things that stood out for me. Not only the fact that he is the first black president of the United States and what that would mean to my grandparents and my mother, but what it means to my son – a young black male who is going to have to grow up with a few strikes against him. My son is black, a black male, adopted, with saved parents. He has these things to deal with while he is growing up – enough for anyone to deal with but yet he will make it for Jesus is over his life. My son is so excited about Obama being president because someone that looks like him is in the White House, he wants to go to Washington D.C. to see things and this is something that we must do for him…yet he is excited mostly because it is someone who looks like him. Despite how I feel about politicians, as I am truly no fan of any of them, I am proud that America has finally accepted their first black president of the United States. Yes as I listened to him and his references to how far we as American have come – I thought was a great reference BUT as always the Lord spoke to me as he stated the following:
“Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.”
I know he was talking about the nation and what his presidency has to face along with the American people BUT this sang out to me about our walk in Jesus. I know I am annoying sometimes but the truth of the matter is that I am a Christian woman and everything revolves around Jesus in my life – my life is Jesus. Nothing comes before the Lord and nothing ever will – Thank you Jesus. So as I listened to this, I thought of our walk in Jesus. The challenges that we face are real, some of us face serious and many challenges in our lives from simple things to huge items. None of it will be met easily or in a short time in some cases, but we as Christians need to know is that they will be met!! Hallelujah Jesus!! Each day we wake up because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord – Jesus over the world’s view! Bless the name of Jesus….
As I was listening to him (Obama) speak these words…the Lord started speaking to me! Praise the Lord for His mighty words delivered from the least expected place for me…the speech of the new President of the United States…let us keep him and his family in prayer and may we always keep the presence of the Lord with us always!! Let the words of our mouth and the mediations of our hearts be acceptable in the sight of the Lord for all eternity and may we always realize that our hope and change is in Jesus!!

Sister Alissa Lynne
